Peter Capaldi, one of the greats, intro story was one of the most darkly comedic television shows ever transmitted at tea time on a Saturday night. Michael Smiley was in that episode so it might well be the case. He seems something of an actorly mascot to Ben Wheatly, both bringing out the best in each other. These stories set the tone for a season unlike all the others which followed. The new Doctor's first seasons always prove to be a treasure trove and are still gifting years after their transmission.
